  1. Hi Ron,

I'm currently trying to build a very similar environment in using a Cisco 2811 as a FR switch.

Was curious as to what physical cards are you using for your routers? My pieced together setup includes:
    1 x 2811 (2 x T1 CSU/DSU WIC-1T Cards)
    2 x 2801s (1 x T1 CSU/DSU WIC-1T Cards)
    2 x 2851s (4 x T1 CSU/DSU WIC-1T Cards)
    4 x 2821s (2 x T1 CSU/DSU WIC-1T Cards)

In trying to configure the T1 cards to cross connect into my 2851 I've found I need special T1 Crossover cables (not Ethernet Crossover cables).

Have you been using T1 CSU/DSU cards for your serial connection on your 2811 and/or any of the other 2800s?

    Cheers,
    Mark

    1. Hello Mark, and all!

I have been moving to a new home so I have not had a chance to update my blog. Anyway, I use standard WIC-2T cards with Smart Serial (DCE/DTE) cables.

I have 1 T1 card but I have not used it yet. I plan to probably use them more when I get to the CCNP track since they are more common with T1 technology. I plan to buy some as they are pretty cheap on ebay.

But yes, the cable is different from a standard CAT5 or 6 ethernet cable. I made the same mistake at work.

    1. I will post a Visio drawing for you. Do you just want the frame relay setup or my entire (small) network?

      Regards!

  3. I actually got the setup to work.

I did more research and found that I had to make/buy the special T1 Crossovers (different from Ethernet crossover) cables. This allowed me to get physical link light to come up and I was successful in having a back to back connection between my 2821 T1 WIC-DSU cards.

Even got my 2851 to be a frame-relay switch. :)

    1. Cool. I initially used the 2821 for frame relay but I decided to use all 2821s as branch office routers and the 2851 as an HQ router since the specifications were higher.

Can you post your topology map?
